Blue Ridge RV Resort: fall colors in North Georgia

Nellie headed for the mountains. We spent Halloween weekend at Blue Ridge RV Resort in Morganton, Georgia — site 200 — with fall color all around and Blue Ridge, Ellijay, and the surrounding towns an easy day trip away.
It's about nine hours from Winter Garden. Worth every mile when the leaves are turning.

Our site
Site 200 was a nice drive-thru spot with 30 and 50 amp hookups, water, and dump. Nellie fit easily. The bathrooms with showers were great, there's a pool on site, and a little store if you forgot something.
We were there over Halloween, and the resort went all out — trick-or-treaters, and even a fully decorated haunted house. Festive in the best way.

Mercier Orchards
Apple season called, so we went to Mercier Orchards in Blue Ridge. U-pick when it's open, pies and cider donuts from the bakery, and easy parking at the farm. Fourth-generation family orchard — the kind of stop that makes a mountain weekend feel like a mountain weekend.

Coffee, trains, and pedal cars
We never skip a coffee date. Mountain Mama's Coffee in downtown Blue Ridge hit the spot — or pull over and pour over in Nellie whenever the mountains ask for a pause.
The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway runs from the historic depot downtown along the Toccoa River. Reserve tickets ahead — fall foliage rides sell out. They also run rail bikes (pedal cars): a separate 90-minute ride that needs its own reservation.
Close by
The resort is a perfect base for Blue Ridge, Ellijay, and the towns around them. Easy access to Fall Branch Falls, the Toccoa swinging bridge, and Lake Blue Ridge — we skipped the falls and the bridge this trip, but Lake Blue Ridge and the color were plenty.
Our tips
- Book the railway and rail bikes early for fall weekends.
- Leave room in Nellie for Mercier pies and donuts.
- Make coffee in the van, then wander — or find Mountain Mama's on Main.
- Halloween weekend was festive at the resort; ask what's on when you book.
A simple weekend
- Day 1. Drive up from Winter Garden, check in at site 200, stretch the legs, and catch the fall light.
- Day 2. Mercier Orchards for apples and bakery treats, coffee in town, then the scenic railway or rail bikes (reservations required).
- Day 3. Lake Blue Ridge or a quiet morning under the leaves, then the long, pretty drive home.
